Does Smart Voice upload my recordings?
No. Speech is turned into text on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, by Apple’s own speech engine or a speech model stored in the app. Nothing you say is uploaded, not to us, not to anyone. There are no analytics, no ads and no third-party SDKs; the App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”.
Does it work offline, in airplane mode?
Yes. Recording, transcription, speakers, notes and search all run on the device. Turn on airplane mode and keep talking: every word is still written.
Do I need an account?
No. Open it and talk. With Pro, your library syncs through your own iCloud, never a server of ours.
How fast does the transcription appear?
Words appear about a second after they are said: first words in 1.1 s, measured on an iPhone with Apple’s speech engine.
Which languages does it transcribe?
99 languages. 25 with Apple’s built-in speech engine, the rest with Whisper, all on the device. It suggests the right language for each recording.
What if my phone dies or the app crashes mid-recording?
The recording is still there. Audio is saved as it is heard, a few seconds at a time, so a dead battery, a crash or a phone call never loses what was already said.
Is there a time limit on recordings?
No. Smart Voice records for as long as you talk, on every plan. The free version writes the words of the first 5 minutes of each recording and keeps all of the audio; Pro writes every word, however long.
Can it tell who said what?
Yes. Every voice gets its own label, so a meeting reads like a script. Name a voice once and Smart Voice recognises it next time.
Can I edit the audio?
By the word. Hold a word to cut it or bleep it, and the audio follows. Every edit is a step you can take back, next week or next year; the original is never touched.
How much does it cost?
Smart Voice is free to download. Pro is $39.99 a year with 7 days free, $6.99 a month, or $89.99 once (US prices; the App Store shows yours).
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone, iPad and Mac (iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26), and Apple Watch. The whole app is a 17 MB download: there is no gigabyte speech model inside.
Can I export my recordings and transcripts?
Always, on every plan. The audio is a plain file in the Files app; the words go out as text, Markdown or subtitles (SRT, VTT).
